Mindfulness has been all the rage recently. From colouring books to yoga. Regardless of it being a trending topic, it is a fully immersive way of being appreciative and aware, and it works wonders when trying to relax. Recently Wool and the Gang held a Macrame necklace making event at The Alice House Queen Park and the creative activity worked well as a de-stressor.
We were gathered together in The Alice House’s homely library room. The relaxing setting had a lot to offer with artistic and intriguing paintings on the wall and beautiful wooden décor. The Alice House is a gastropub for British food and craft beers. The venue’s vintage chic design immediately makes you feel at home, which was perfect for Wool and the Gang’s creative evening.
Wool and the Gang provide knitting kits for enthusiasts and beginners alike. It doesn’t matter what your level is, you’ll find something that fits. We were asked to choose any colour yarn we wanted (I chose teal), then the team came around and helped everyone go through the steps of making their Macrame necklace. I chose to make what looked like the simplest version. Once you get a hand of the knot and how it works, the process becomes rhythmic. The flow with which you create the knots works well as a way to lose yourself in the task at hand. This is mindfulness at its best.
Macrame allows you to use knotting instead of weaving and knitting. It opens up a whole new playing field with various knots that can create the most intricate and unique designs.
