Barrio means an urban district or quarter in a Spanish speaking country. What Barrio Bar has done is bring a part of the culture, the creative cocktails and ease of a Spanish night out and condensed it into a few bars dotted around London. Barrio Soho (formerly known as Barrio Central) is only a few minutes from Oxford Street, sitting quite subtly snuggled into Poland Street.
They’ve had a very attractive 50% off deal for all their food for the entirety of January and combined with £5 cocktails (specific hours only) this is a great place to start and end the night. Many places have a specific kind of night that they’ve established, but Barrio Soho is quite literally an every day and every night place. With soft lighting, bright colours and strong cocktails, there’s a contagious Latin American ambiance about this late-night hang out.
I had a taste of their delicious cocktail of the week made from Casco Blanco, pineapple, honey, prosecco and lime juice. It was great to try something random, new and exciting. It was also completely surprising and the taste unexpected. The prosecco somehow mellowed the sweet taste of the pineapple but keeping its own form of bitterness. The second cocktail I had would have to be my favourite. There’s nothing sexier on that menu for me than the Brazilian Lady- it’s truly a smooth and frothy drink with quite an exotic punch from the passion fruit. Made with Abhela Organic cachaca, passion fruit and cool lemon shaken with egg white, it’s a mix of pure temptation.
I would recommend their MCT chicken taco, with a dashing of spice- it’s made of buttermilk marinated fried chicken, Mexican slaw, sour cream and macha sauce. I could have eaten another four. Other favourites on the menu are the fresh sweet potato fries for snacks and the macha glazed chicken wings. It’s fair to say that I’m slightly obsessed with macha now. So I had to do some research into what it actually is and Google told me it’s a Mexican sauce made of two different chillies but I have a feeling Barrio have adapted this sauce as it’s not too chilly.
Their new Group Head Chef, Ernesto Pavia, is partly behind this new menu and he comes from internationally working in a three Michelin star restaurant in France. At Barrio he’s returned to his Latin American roots and delivered a flavourful and fun menu. The pricing is quite generous already, but with 50% off for the rest of January, Barrio Soho is perfect for some quick food and a relaxed evening of drinks in London.
