If you think you’ve seen great street art, think again. Melbourne’s CBD is a cluster of walkways hidden down sidelines, away from the prying eyes of Swanston Street and Elizabeth Street. There’s no lane like Hosier Lane & I’ve definitely not seen anything like it anywhere else.
I guess you’ll have to travel all the way to Straya to understand what I mean. It’s the art scene everyone talks about and I get to see it any day I like.
The colours are splashed on the walls and there’s always something new and different. Depending on the time of year, you’ll have some European tagging or a sentimental piece. Usually when something is high-profile political, you can guarantee there’ll be something in relation graffed up on the walls.
I think you need to be approved to create some craziness on these walls but of course, that’s not always the way. All of the art is different. You’ve got stencils, paste-ups, installations and murals. There’s always something going on in all forms of art.
My favourite time is unplanned, it’s usually when I happen to find a street artist at work.
