One of my favourite pasta dishes resides at this restaurant on Acland Street. I’d say it’s nestled amongst all the other restaurants, but Rococo holds precedence when it comes to space and subtle grandeur. As spacious as it is, Rococo is bustling with both activity and intimacy. Parallel atmospheres combine in this cosy set-up.
Rococo has a real spin in its breakfast and brunch menu. Try the cornetti (Italian version of a croissant and by far my favourite) filled with Nutella if you want something light and easy with your morning coffee. I recommend choosing one of the many options on the brunch menu.
I had the Chilli Omelette with a kick ($18.50). Think smashed everything, rolled up and oozing delicate cheese in the centre. Made up of smashed roasted potato, caramelised onion, cherry tomatoes, basil, fontina cheese, crispy shallots and parmesan with grilled ciabatta on the side. It was divine and I made it my post-gym meal. The spice is manageable for the morning and is easily coupled with the fried shallots sprinkled on top. The right amount of melted cheese complements the light flavours which are all brought out by the spice. A side of relish accompanies the dish.
When it comes to lunch and dinner I used to be lost for choice but now I have a firm favourite and I stick to it every single time. I should be more adventurous but this fear of missing out settles in. I know the Bucatini All’Amatriciana ($25) has an amazing mix of fresh chilli and tomato doused pancetta. It’s what I go for every single time. I’ve also tried the gluten-free pasta option and love the combination. It’s quite spicy for me but nothing no one else can’t handle!
Basically, go for meals with your girls, take your date or reserve a table for the family. Rococo is a chameleon of sorts. Make sure you keep time for this restaurant with a flair.
