Today is the sixth day and I finally did something about all the worry I was having. I sorted out my packing. Being stricter with myself wasn’t hard as it needed to be done. Plus, the birthday celebrations started with a spontaneous trip to Brixton.
The day started off with a 5.45am start, quick breakfast and a 7am Ride class at Tribeca. This was closely followed by the packing that needed to happen. May I add here that it was my first ever Ride (spinning) class and I made it to the end but not without a lot of effort.
Packing is probably a part of travelling that shouldn’t be so difficult. I guess it’s harder to let go of the materials until you’ve actually left your comfort zone and realise you don’t need much. A lot of love goes a longer way than most things.
Day six for me was important because it’s the 14th of September and the day before my birthday. Claire and I went out in celebration. The celebrations started off perfectly at The Ritzy Picturehouse in Brixton. Brixton is an entity of its own. As a West Londoner, east has always intrigued me. It’s loud and vibrant, with people and a great vibe.
We watched Café Society and then followed it by choosing a random restaurant to eat. Apparently Satay, a live and enigmatic restaurant near the station, served up a food generic to Bali and elsewhere. This place was the complete opposite of the Hollywood scenes we witness in Café Society; it’s evidence that our world is large and full of so much culture.
Before leaving Brixton there was an enchanting musician playing outside the Underground station. Ashley Abigo sang and we stood still. The kind of voice that makes you shiver because it’s so beautiful. The music and a balmy evening were the perfect way to end the spontaneous birthday outing.
I’ve had the chance to see a lot more of London in one full sweep before leaving and Brixton was the cherry.
The perfect evening made my heart swell with so much gratitude for all of my blessings.
