Enter the spacious and lively event space at Number 90 for an evening of delicious cocktails and an infectious atmosphere. This weekend is the 4 day Birthday Weekender, where the entire team behind Number 90 and its regulars are celebrating the second year of its running.
Starting off on Thursday evening, all guests were welcomed into the creative space of Number 90. For the last two years creativity has weaved its way around the bar, gallery and terrace. The minute you arrive here you’ll be greeted by a new mural by Ron Martin covering the front façade of the building. Once you’ve entered, on your left is their new #90 Gallery space where local and established artists are showcased; changing every month, this space allows you to get acquainted with the latest talent.
The creative flow is everywhere, from the lights and walls to their cosy terrace. Once you walk out onto the terrace you’ll notice that it has been extended, with its very own mini bar outside. Sitting along the canal-side, you’re able to relax with a beautiful view and cocktails- perfect on a bright spring and summer evening.
On the night Tim Lang, Number 90’s General Manager, individually greeted all of his guests, welcoming everyone to the build. This level of personal touch make it an even more inviting space and shows the dedication their entire team put into the night.
Starting the night off with drinks, I tried the 90 Ways To Happiness cocktail, a bright mix of Appleton rum, mango, bitters, and lime and ginger beer. This was quite fresh and the bitters really stood out. My favourite would have to be the Gin House Effect, this included my favourite, Tanqueray gin, St Germain elderflower, cloudy apple juice, lemon and egg white- which will always add an unmatched texture to cocktails. Other options for the weekend include Number 90’s Fish Island Ice Tea, Honey Paloma and the East London Espresso Martini.
The night also provided samples of the fresh new menu that the bar is going to use. Platters of mini burgers were rotated around the room. These included goats cheese and mushroom or feta cheese combinations. I also had a taste of the current menu’s vegetarian shepherd’s pie which had ingredients smoothly working well together along with the right topping of cheese. The menu centres on fresh and locally sourced ingredients with an emphasis on vegetarian, vegan dishes and gluten free offerings.
Number 90 hit perfectly with the first day of their 4 day weekend, incorporating music that slowly turned up throughout the night with a special DJ set by Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay. This opening night set a tone for the rest of the weekend. Number 90 is offering a true treat and if you can’t make it at the weekend, make sure to check out the venue soon to indulge in the world of art.
